Lamborghini Reventon – The official story.

October 30, 2007

Straight from the Bull’s mouth – we will be there to capture it when it arrives in Dubai this year at the International Motorshow 2007….stay tuned here!

Raging Bull

Automobili Lamborghini presents the new Lamborghini Reventón at the Frankfurt Motorshow 2007

The essence of the marque: just 20 examples of a design masterpiece

Clearly a Lamborghini, but nothing quite like it. A super car without equals: the Lamborghini Reventón is a road vehicle with an extreme specification and, at the same time, a limited edition masterpiece – a coherent style, angular with sharp lines, inspired by the very latest aeronautics.

With just 20 produced, each 1 Million Euro (without taxes) Lamborghini Reventón is a symbol of extreme exclusivity, yet still offering the extraordinary performance that makes the Reventón so unrivalled: under the completely autonomous design, the Reventón possesses the entire technical and dynamic competence of the twelve cylinder Lamborghini.

Lamborghini prides itself on being the extraordinary manufacturer of extreme super sports cars without compromise. Sensuality and provocation characterise every Lamborghini, with an aggressively innovative style. “However, the Reventón is the most extreme of all, a true automotive superlative. Our designers at the Lamborghini Style Centre took the technical base of the Murciélago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code,” affirms Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A

Born in Sant’Agata Bolognese

The Lamborghini Reventón has been entirely designed in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the original birthplace of the Lamborghini and the native home of every super car born under the sign of the bull. The design drawn up in Lamborghini’s Centro Stile (Style Centre) is fine-tuned in close collaboration with the Lamborghini Research and Development Department. Thus, the Reventón is not only “haute couture” but it also stands out for its elevated dynamism whilst being entirely suitable for every day use.

The Lamborghini Reventón is not destined to remain a one-off. A total of 20 Lamborghini friends and collectors will be able to own this extraordinary car and, naturally, enjoy the incomparable pleasure of driving it.

The name Reventón has been chosen according to Lamborghini tradition. Reventón was a fighting bull, owned by the Don Rodriguez family. It is included in the list of the most famous bulls ever and is known for killing the famed bullfighter Felix Guzman in 1943.

Inspired by the fastest airplanes

The present day Lamborghini models are distinguished by the clear language of their shape. The coherent proportions of the Murciélago and Gallardo highlight their power and dynamism. Sharp edges, precise lines and clean surfaces: these are ingredients of a style reduced to the essential. Each element is created exactly according to its function; ornaments and decorations are totally foreign to a Lamborghini.

With the Reventón the Centro Stile designers have coherently developed this philosophy, inspired by another sphere where speed and dynamism reign absolute: modern aeronautics, responsible for the fastest and most agile airplanes in the world. This has created an extremely precise, technically striking style with a new vitality: interrupted lines and contorted surfaces create a fascinating play of light, giving the car incredible movement.

Made of carbon fibre and precision

Although it is based on the extraordinarily successful Murciélago LP640, the exterior design of the Reventón is completely new. Just like the base model, the exterior is made of CFC, a composite carbon fibre material, which is as stable as it is light. The exterior components are glued and fixed to the body comprised of CFC and steel.

The front is characterised by the acute angle of the central ‘arrow’ and by the powerful forward-facing air intakes. Although they do not supply air directly to the turbine like an airplane, bearing in mind the 650 hp, an abundant volume of air is necessary to cool the carbon brake disks and the six cylinder callipers.

Characterised by coherent functions

Naturally, both doors on the Reventón open upwards – since the legendary Countach this has also been a symbol of the V12 Lamborghini product line. With their asymmetric configuration, the large air intakes below the doors provide an example of the extreme coherence with which a Lamborghini fulfils its function: on the driver’s side it is large to increase the flow of oil to the radiator. On the passenger’s side of the vehicle, the air intake is flat because in this case, it only has to ensure the flow below the floor. The aerodynamically optimised flat floor structure terminates at the rear with a diffuser featuring an accentuated shape. This guarantees excellent road grip and stability even at 340 km per hour.

In spite of the extreme and innovative language of its shape, the Reventón not only maintains all the strong features of the Murciélago LP640, but also offers further amelioration in terms of aerodynamics, the important engine cooling system, the air intake system and brakes. The airflow and the section of the variable geometry air intakes of the engine and the rear spoiler (also adjustable) have been modified.

Owners of the 20 examples will be able to test the performance of his or her Lamborghini in person.

Lamborghini Reventon – 1.1 Million Euros – 20 Pieces – 2 heading to Dubai?

October 25, 2007

THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN UPDATED SINCE IT WAS FIRST WRITTEN BACK IN 2007

Read below for more….

While there was much speculation about how many pieces are being made – are there any heading to Dubai?

Raging Bull

Attending the Launch of the Maserati GranTurismo here in Dubai, we found out that there is at least 1 heading out here to Dubai for certain with at least one more being speculated.

If 20 are being made – does that mean more will head to our roads soon?

Why not? I have seen at least 6 Bugatti Veyrons so far in Dubai alone – with the rumor mill claiming at least 8 here in Dubai and at least 6 in Abu Dhabi. Don’t forget, there are about 5 more Emirates to count into that picture here in the UAE, none of whom would be at a loss to have one in their stables.

After all, if the Bugatti is anything to go by as an investment car (VW makes a loss on each car made and sold) a Reventon or 2 should feel right at home here in the UAE.

To learn more about this modern day Picasso on wheels (and steroids) we invite you to visit wikipedia, who provide a comprehensive lowdown on this Bull.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Revent%C3%B3n

Till we get more. That’s us for now.

UPDATE!! UPDATE!! UPDATE!! UPDATE!!

I only think it fair, almost a year on since I last wrote this article that I update it for all of you who read my blog.

There is officially 1 Reventon now here in Dubai, but not only can we – the Rolling Art Emporium, get our hands on 2 more, you too can find one on Hemmings.com should you venture there.

Did I mention the fact that you would now need to have about 3 million Euros burning a hole in your pocket (that should include shipping, taxes if your lucky and other costs…..maybe…).

Do read our other article, where we cover another very special Lamborghini of its time (only 1 ever made however) – the 1996 Lamborghini Zagato Raptor, which is a totally road legal car and a fine collectors item.

I also might add that our partners at Pebble Beach this year in 2008 witnessed the auction of the first Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport (convertible….) at 2.9 Million USD. That’s half the price of a Reventon AND the chance to build the first Veyron to your specifications at Mulshine where you will be looked after like a prince.

I will be posting a link the video of the car selling shortly.

A last update I would like to leave you all with on this article is that it is now rumoured that the last Bugatti Veyron count here in the UAE has broken the 30 piece count. That – for a fact, includes one gent I met who has 2 because he could not decide between 2 colours, and another “gent” who has a Pur Sang.

Makes you wonder just a little…..doesn’t it? More than that, I am happy to admit, it boggles the mind and leaves me giddy with joy to live in the UAE.

Best,

RAE

The Ultimate barn find in Portugal….

October 25, 2007

You may have heard this one before, but I could not help but post this on the Legends and Myths section of my blog.

It came to me a while ago from a friend in India – Mr. Girish Nydu – who continues to send me much material that you will see featured in my blog from time to time.

The story goes a little something like this:

Man goes to Portugal to retire.

Man buys large farmland property from a family looking to get rid of it.

Man moves to his retirement location.

Man finds 2 very, very large barns on the property – which he had not noticed before. The doors on the barn are rusted solid.

Once the doors and locks are broken and the door forced open, he finds the following greets him:

The barn that is home to 180 classic and exotic cars….

Since there are so many pictures to see (and believe) I suggest going to the source website which is “http://www.intuh.net/barnfinds/index.htm

There what you will find is the SCM (Sports Car Market) doing an amazing investigation into the story to solve the urban legend.

This is what really happened – or as they put it – The Story Behing The Story as told by Tom Cotter

The Rumor Mill – (chinese whispers…)

October 25, 2007

Yes.

Its true. Even we like to have a good gossip session going once in a while when it comes to the classic and exotic car world.

For instance – one rumor I came across the other day was that the Shah of Iran’s Lamborghini Muira found a temporary home here in Dubai – only to be sold for a measly AED 150,000 to a new owner.

Exclusive! Official Launch for the Maserati GranTurismo in Dubai

October 24, 2007

The official launch of the long awaited Maserati GranTurismo took place amongst a very selective group of guests and potential clientele in Dubai last night at the Atrium within the Dubai International Financial City complex.

The set up was executed with all the glamour and finesse that one would expect at a launch for the Middle East and more.

Champagne, sushi, wine and other bits and pieces floated from guest to guest while they all stood around a white veil that gave no clue to the shape of the GranTurismo whatsoever.

However – 2 cars on the balcony outside the main launch circle indoors covered – gave us glimpses as to what we were to expect once the veil was finally lifted.

Apart from being a gorgeous vehicle magnificently sculpted with some help from Pininfarina – here are a few numbers and pictures for you to absoarb!

Maserati started as a racing car manufacturer in 1914. Starting from the chassis of a racing car, the A6, and further to the pressures of some customers, the company presented in 1947 at the Geneva Motorshow the A6 GranTurismo, styled by Pinin Farina. It was the first Maserati road car and was produced in 58 units. The car was acclaimed by the automotive press for its advanced technical content and for its avant-garde style solutions.

Ten years later, in 1957, once again at the Geneva Motorshow, Maserati presented its first standard GranTurismo, the 3500 GT. This was the car that transformed Maserati in a road car manufacturer, where production of standard cars took priority over that of racing models. A total of 1983 units of the 3500GT were produced over seven years.

To continue the tradition and celebrate the 60 year anniversary of the A6 as well as the 50 year anniversary of the 3500GT,

Maserati debuts once again at the Geneva Motorshow with its new coupé, the Maserati GranTurismo. The choice of name is not incidental; once again the combined forces of Maserati – Pininfarina have created a car that can excite and outperform the competition in terms of its design engineering and unique and inimitable style.”
